Legaspi: End of June, end of terms

THE end of June means the end of the terms of officials whose mandate were not renewed by the people, or those who already finished their terms. The first day of July is the start of new administrations. Welcome both new and seasoned leaders. Please steer our country to the best interest of the people.

I fear though that like the Star Wars saga, the next election would be “The Empire Strikes Back” for as early as last week, most of those who lost have started coming back with a vengeance. After which will be the “Return of the Jedi,” but what we have to watch out for is if “The Force Awakens.” This might be the future of our country if we follow the last four sagas of Star Wars.

Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte brings in new hope for the Philippines. He will show no mercy to the drug lords and drug pushers, and will brace himself for their come back. We really have to pray for the new president for courage and for the force that he could crush the drug empire in the country.

He brings new hope for the rebel movement. This is the opportune time for the Communist Party of the Philippines to show their capacity and ability to change the government. Now is the time that the Left is given the chance to really effect the change they want.

The Duterte administration also brings hope for peace in southern Philippines. The President-elect has called on the Abu Sayyaf Group to either sit down at the negotiating table or fight in the field. This is a very clear indication that this administration really means business.

A new hope to end corruption in the country – this is clear in the statement of the President-elect that he really means transparency in his administration. He is and will always be ready to come out with his assets, and wants to be transparent in all government transactions.

The “Empire Strikes Back.” Mar Roxas and his friends are patting their shoulders for a job well done and is now looking forward to the 2022 presidential elections. It is similar to a friend I know who is already looking forward to his bid in 2019. Many other candidates who lost in the last elections are now looking to strike back.

Those under the Aquino administration will have a comeback in the next election. A lot of “doctors of Philippine politics” are now studying where they committed a great mistake because their “perfect” candidate did not win.

The old politicians and political allies will surely return and become elders who will really run the country. These are the Jedis. They know a lot about traditional politics and election tactics. They could be the ones the people will choose.

May the force be with us.
