Businessman shot dead in Cebu City

A BUSINESSMAN was shot dead at Purok 5, Barangay San Jose, Cebu City, on Monday, June 27.

The victim was identified as Romeo Burgos Ople, 47, a sand and gravel distributor.

According to police initial investigation, Ople and his nephew were on their way to deliver sand when an unidentified man blocked their way and shot the victim twice on his nape.

Ople was rushed to North General Hospital for medical assistance but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The gunman fled after the incident. Ople's nephew was unscathed.

Personal grudge was believed to be the possible motive in killing.

The victim's daughter, Mary Jane Miñoza, said that two weeks ago, Ople went to her house to borrow a jungle bolo (pinote) for their protection.

Two empty shells of caliber .45 pistol was recovered from the crime scene. They were turned over to crime laboratory for ballistic examination.

Investigation is ongoing. (Apple Jay P. Ortega, PIT intern/Sunnex)
