DFA chief: Philippines won't junk Edca

THE Duterte government has no plan to junk the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (Edca) with the United States, Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. said Friday.

The new Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) chief also said that there is no move to review Edca.

"There is a process but there has been no request of any of the parties to review Edca. On that basis, I will categorically say to you that Edca stands firm and the Supreme Court has just recently upheld its constitutionality," he said in his first press conference as DFA chief.

Some militant groups supportive of President Rodrigo Duterte have been demanding for the junking of Edca.

They have been calling also for the revocation of the Visiting Forces Agreement with the US.

Yasay said that the Cabinet members are also supporting the pronouncement of the President that the Philippines will honor all international agreements and treaties. (SDR/Sunnex)
