Utzurrum: Ingrid’s musical epic

CONCERT pianist extraordinaire Ingrid Sala-Santamaria’s fondest dream came true! She finally launched her impressive musical epic, My Four Seasons, recently at the Casino Español with devoted family, the huge and prominent Sala clan, music colleagues, the academe, friends and admirers.

The voluminous coffee table book and three-compact discs (CDs) are a faithful chronicle of Ingrid’s 50-year musical career: starting from her student days, to her rigid piano lessons from mother, Pilar Blanco-Sala, (Cebu’s first piano teacher) to her early marriage, and subsequent family life, evolving into a brilliant, world-class concert pianist!

Most of the book’s data were meticulously compiled and documented by Dr. Amor Hernando, a volunteer at the Sala Foundation, incorporating articles and anecdotes about the artist, whom she greatly admired.

The event unfolded with the welcome remarks by a dear family friend, Don Jaime Picornell, mentioning some trivia about Ingrid, before program host Mary Rose Villacastin-Maghuyop took over.

Distinguished guests were Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III and wife, Jobelle. Also gracing the event was Manila-based culture writer Pablo Tariman, and of course Ingrid’s family members who jetted in from the metropolis.

As a perfect ending to a memorable afternoon, Ingrid played a lilting Third Movement from Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1, where she was accompanied by Reynaldo Abellana and Nicole Badar, Arthur Yap, Warner Ylaya, Jerome Rezaba, Geraldine Abellana and Christopher Tero on various instruments.

Congratulations, Ingrid! We eagerly await the next edition!
