Gun, ammos, cigarettes seized

A FIREARM, ammunition, and suspected smuggled cigarettes were seized by a joint police team during a raid at a residence in Purok Active, Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, Monday afternoon.

Police identified the suspect as Jupiter “Nonoy” Urbanozo, 47, a resident of Ilog, Negros Occidental.

Operatives led by Inspector Renoli Bagayao, head of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Bacolod, raided Urbanozo’s house around 2 p.m. through a search warrant issued by Judge Jose Paolo Ariola of Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 1.

The operation was augmented by CIDG-Negros Occidental, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Safety Company, and Regional Maritime Unit-Negros Island Region.

Police seized a .45 caliber pistol, four steel magazines, 31 live ammunition of .45 caliber, and a bag, along with 29 boxes of cigarettes, and a plastic of assorted rims of cigarettes believed to be smuggled.

Bagayao said Urbanozo, who failed to present pertinent documents for the recovered items, is involved in selling of homemade firearms from Cebu City.

Urbanozo has a previous case of grave threat in Ilog town and a murder case in Kabankalan City, but already dismissed by the court, he added.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law will be filed Tuesday against Urbanozo, who is in the custody of CIDG-Bacolod.
