More drugs seized in MisOr jail

PRISON officials of Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) seized some P39,000 worth of illegal drugs inside the detention facility in a prison shakedown Wednesday morning, July 6.

Jail Warden Dominador Tagarda said 45 sachets of ‘shabu’ were discovered hidden under the inmates beds and in the ceilings of the cells inspected.

A weighing scale was also recovered.

Tagarda said four inmates have also been tagged for involvement in illegal drug activities inside the MOPJ.

Jail guard dismissed

Tagarda said a jail guard whom he declined to identify was also dismissed from service after confessing carrying twice two packs of illegal drugs inside the jail facility.

The jail guard admitted during the second round of the search and inspection last June 8 that he facilitated the entry of illegal drugs in two separate circumstances.

"During sa 2nd round sa search and inspection sa mga selda, kalit lang siya nihilak kay na guilty ba kaha siya nga nakita nga iyang mga kauban naningkamot mao gipatawag nako siya ug nikumpisal siya," Tagarda said.

Tagarda said a packet of ‘shabu’ would cost P12,000-P15,000.

"Mo-times 10 pa gyud na kung ma-repack na unya wala pud ta kahibalo kung kaduha ra ba gyud o kadaghan na nga higayon," Tagarda added.

The dismissed jail guard, who served for one year, admitted that he engaged with illegal drug trade due to poverty.

"Tungod daw sa kalisud mao iyang nahimo, i-recommend for termination kay job order man to siya and after sa iyang confession wala na pud dayon siya nagpakita," Tagarda said.

Admin charges on drug use

Four other jail guards are facing administrative cases for drug use.

Tagarda said the four have confessed to using illegal drugs inside the jail facility.

"Nag-atubang karon sila sa administrative cases. Ang usa is witness kay siya man ang nag reveal," Tagarda said.

Tagarda confirmed they have intensified monitoring among the ranks of the jail guards and said MOPJ personnel are not exempted from surprised drug tests conducted by the Provincial Government.

"Kamanduan man gyud ni Governor Bambi Emano kining regular and surprise nga inspection sa MOPJ pati nang drug test magpatawag ra mana si Gov kay dili man exempted ang atong mga staff,” he said. Alwen Saliring
