Bacolod councilors get committee assignments

MEMBERS of the 9th City Council (SP) of Bacolod will get their committee assignments during the inaugural session at 3 p.m. today at the SP session hall of the People’s House.

Councilor Caesar Distrito said that each political camp has already identified the chairs of various committees.

On the part of the ruling Grupo Progreso, Distrito said he is the choice of the majority to serve as the next Floor Leader, which would be his second time after he was also named to the post from July 2013 up to May 2014.

Each regular councilor is entitled to at least two committee chairmanships while the ex-officio members such as the Liga ng mga Barangay president and Sangguniang Kabataan (Youth Council) president will hold committees mandated by law.

The majority members will chair the following committees: Distrito, chairman of committees on laws, ordinances and good government; finance and appropriation; urban planning and general services.

Councilor Renecito Novero, committees on transportation and traffic; education; and urban poor, housing and resettlement; Councilor Dindo Ramos, committees on communications and energy; senior citizen; Sangguniang Kabataan, sports, and youth affairs; Councilor Em, committees on health and sanitation; social services; and tourism and international cooperation.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, committees on environment and ecology; family and child care development; and women and gender; Councilor Elmer Sy, committees on public works; and fire, natural disasters and calamities; Councilor Ricardo Tan, committees on police matters; peace and order and illegal drugs; and cooperative and livelihood programs; and Councilor Bartolome Orola, committees on markets and slaughterhouse; and fisheries and aquatic resources.

Distrito said the opposition councilors belonging to the Magbinuligay kita para sa Kauswagan will be entitled to committees on human resource and development; agriculture and agrarian reform; government assets; ways and means; human rights; barangay affairs; history, culture and arts; trade, commerce and industry; labor and OFW.

Councilor Sonya Verdeflor said she will chair the committees on trade, commerce, and industry; and agriculture and agrarian reform; Councilor Ana Marie Palermo, committees on labor and OFW, and human rights; Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr., committees on ways and means, and history, culture and arts; Councilor Claudio Puentevella, committees on human resource and government assets; and Councilor Noli Villarosa, committee on barangay affairs.
