Vidakovic is new Ceres FC coach

SERBIAN-born Spanish veteran coach Risto Vidakovic is the new mentor of Ceres-La Salle FC after signing up on Tuesday.

His entry is seen as the final piece to complete the puzzle, and make the club complete following the entry of Fil-German goalkeeper Roland Muller.

The new signing is expected to further help the Ceres FC campaign in the ongoing United Football League tournament as well as the RHB Singapore Cup semifinals.

The 47-year-old Vidakovic carries an impressive coaching record in Spain and Honduras from 2010 to 2015. He also steered the Serbia national team during the Eurocopa 2008.

In Spain, he mentored Real Betis Balompie B, Cadiz C.F., Ecija C.F. and Real Murcia C.F. while in Honduras, the C.D. Motagua.

As a pro-player, Vidakovic suited up for F.C. Sarajevo, Red Star de Belgrado, Real Betis Balompie, ATL Osasuna, Polideportivo Ejido, and the national team of former Yugoslavia.

In his resumé, Vidakovic describes himself as a motivator, planner, and can adapt to new situations, among the few.

Ceres FC team owner Leo Rey Yanson asked everyone to join him in welcoming coach Vidakovic to the club.

“We are extremely grateful for the fans’ continued support to the club. As we find ways and means to exert our presence in our country's premier football league – the UFL, each player continues to give their 100 percent,” he said.

Yanson added: “His knowledge of the game speaks for itself having played football at a relatively high level in Europe. His contribution to the club is expected to be tremendous as he brings to the table his wide array of playing and coaching experiences,” Yanson said in a statement.

Current team head coach Ali Go, who will return as club director when Vidakovic takes over, described Vidakovic as having very good credentials, and together with him, they want to further explore the team’s potentials.

“We have been winning games and performing well in international tournaments. We have exceeded our expectations. But there’s always room for improvement,” he added.

Placed fourth in the team standing, Ceres FC will be playing Laos FC as they resume their UFL campaign.
