Fiber optic facility up in Guimaras

THE Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) and Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) are putting up a fiber optic cable (FOC) in the province of Guimaras to meet the growing demand for broadband services in the island.

PLDT said the project is being fast-tracked because of the demand for broadband services both from consumers and businesses. It also proposed to the Provincial Government to make use of the 20 GB per second (Gbps) facility in its transactions at the Provincial Capitol.

“This facility will also connect Jordan, Buenavista, Sibunag, Nueva Valencia and San Lorenzo and sa ngayon, we’re putting up equipment na there sa San Miguel Jordan public market and installed na po this coming July 8,” said PLDT.

Same fiber optic, which connects La Paz to Bacolod through a submarine, will be used in Guimaras, said PLDT.

The Guimaras Provincial Government is positive that through the improved communication services, there will be a boost in the business and tourism sectors.

The next steps for the said project are the compliance of its proposal and creation of the technical working group to work on the collaboration and pilot testing. (PR)
