18 drug users yield in Sto. Tomas town

STO. TOMAS -- Some 18 suspected drug users in Barangay San Bartolome, Sto. Tomas, Pampanga voluntarily surrendered to authorities over the weekend after series of coordination operations of the Barangay Council and Philippine National Police here as part of the government’s campaign on illegal drugs.

The “surrender” was witnessed by Mayor Johnny “John” Sambo and San Bartolome Barangay Captain Arthur Lumanog, together with Officer-in-Charge Police Chief Inspector Romwald Basa.

Sambo lauded the suspected drug users who yielded, which is the first step in renewing their lives. The mayor appealed to them to stop their nefarious ways. Also, he promised the drug users, as well as their families, that he would give them livelihood projects as part of his social service programs.

Lumanog, meanwhile, vowed that he would personally talk to suspected drug users in his area to surrender also. He hopes that other barangay councils in Sto. Tomas town will follow what they started.

Basa for his part said the move is part of the intensified “Oplan Tokhang” and assured drug users that they would follow the processes in anti-illegal drugs operation. (Jeffrey M. Gomez/Acting Information Officer/Sto. Tomas MIO)
