Fire victims receive financial aid

THIRTY-TWO families displaced by a recent conflagration in the village of Talon-Talon received financial assistance from the Zamboanga City Government as part of the city’s continuing social services program.

Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, assisted by personnel from the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the City Treasurer’s Office, led the distribution of the financial assistance on Friday afternoon to the identified beneficiaries.

The distribution of the financial aid was held in a simple ceremony at the mayor’s office.

The 32 families were affected by two fire incidents that occurred March 10 and April 5 in the village of Talon-Talon.

City Hall Information Officer Belen Sheila Covarrubias said house owners whose houses were totally damaged received P5,000 each while those with partially houses got P3,000 each.

House sharers and renters with totally damaged houses also received P3,000 each while house sharers with partially damaged structures got P2,000 each.

The cash assistance amounted to a total of P119,000, Covarrubias said. (Bong Garcia)
