A SURPRISE drug test was conducted at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) on Monday, July 11.

About 47 Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) personnel, including members of the Regional Public Safety Battalion, have undergone the test.

Police Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba said it would be an accomplishment if the result is negative.

"It can be considered as our accomplishment if all of the personnel of CIDG that undertook this drug testing [will test] negative because this will boost up the integrity of the unit in our campaign against illegal drugs," he said.

He added that if someone is identified as positive, the said personnel will face criminal and administrative liabilities.

"Concerning administrative liability, the penalty is dismissal from the service, also filing case against him," Tayaba said.

Last year, the CIDG also underwent drug testing and no personnel was found positive of illegal drug use.

The testing Monday was done in compliance with the directive from the Philippine National Police that all police personnel must undergo drug testing within a month. (Apple Jay P. Ortega, PIT intern/Tovya Kaiko Galeon, USJR intern/Sunnex)
