Unwinding at Salvador Benedicto

IT WAS a warm April day when my friends Maricar Dabao and Artie Lacson invited me to have a day trip to the upland town of Salvador Benedicto, or what others refer to as DSB or SalBen. The downside about having been away from one's home province for a long time is that I was not able to explore a lot of attractions, such as this mountain hideaway, right in my own place. Imagine, it took me many years before setting foot to what is considered the summer capital of the province. But the good part is that I see things through fresh eyes, easily excited by short trips like this.

There is so much to see and do in Salvador Benedicto. If you are heading to this part of Negros, which is just two towns away or an hour from Bacolod City, you can choose whether to go the chill and easy option, or the thrill and exciting course.

Relax and Unwind

Soak up to the beauty of the surroundings. The scenery going to Salvador Benedicto is simply breathtaking. While traveling, lower down your car windows to enjoy the cool breeze and marvel at the walls of ferns along the way. Take your time and stop by certain points where you can take photos of rice terraces, rolling hills, and lush mountains. Drive through the pine tree-laden highway and buy fresh fruits and vegetables, live plants, and local products at the shops by the side of the road.

Cool off in one of the resorts in town. I have been to Balokon Spring Resort and visited the St. Francis Eco-park, which are great venues to just idle away, take a dip in their pools, and bask on a quiet interlude. Even on a hot afternoon the spring water is cold, which will instantly give you refuge from the humid air.

Feast on delectable dishes in restaurants and food attractions in town. With the freshest produce, the restos and eateries here have a lot to offer that can satisfy your food cravings. There's Rapha Valley, Mountain View Restaurant, Mowgli's Cafe and Delights, and other local food joints to choose from, depending on your preference and taste.

Take on an Adventure

Zip your way from one point to another. One of the attractions we saw in the area is the Everest Zipline. It's a great way to see the landscape from a different perspective. Wouldn't it be nice to feel like you're some kind of super hero while feasting your eyes on so much green?

Trek and get closer to nature. I have seen the majestic Malatan-og Falls from the view deck along the highway. But if you are someone who loves to exercise your feet and your whole system, then get down to the trail and see the falls up close.

If you feel you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can spend a day or weekend in Salvador Benedicto. The uplands are the best refuge to commune with nature, have some "me" time, and simply enjoy what the place has to offer.
