Voters’ registration for village, SK polls start

AN OFFICIAL of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has urged the public, especially the youth, to register to be able to participate in the 2016 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

District 1 Election Officer Stephen Roy Cañete made the call as the registration of voter started Friday, July 15, per Comelec Resolution No. 10148. The registration ends July 30.

Cañete said those who are interested to register must personally submit their applications with the Comelec during office hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cañete said the applicants must bring with them pertinent documents such as birth certificate, identified cards, or school records.

Cañete said registrants for the village polls must be at least 18 years old by the time of the elections while 15 years old for SK. They must be a resident of the Philippines for at least one year.

He said registered voters aged 18 to 30 can participate in both in the elections for officials of the village and SK.

He said the registration is open to individuals who will register for the first-time both in regular and SK elections as well as reactivation of voter’s registration. (Bong Garcia)
