Seniors can now avail themselves of social pension

INDIGENT senior citizens aged 60 and above may now avail of the Social Pension Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

DSWD-Davao public information officer Carmela Duron said senior citizens aged 60 and above, and without pension from the Social Security System (SSS) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) are eligible to apply for the program.

"We would like to announce that indigent senior citizens aged 60 can now

avail the Social Pension Program. Dati kasi we started at aged 77 then 65. This year binaba nang department to 60 years old na ang maka-avail," Duron said.

Duron said the applicants will be assessed by the social workers and will be endorsed to the DSWD regional office for final approval. She added that indigent senior citizens are entitled to receive P500 social pension every month.

"Sa mga malalayo, we have our social workers to distribute their (senior citizens) pension. Dito sa Davao City, they will have to go to the regional office to get their pension," Duron said.

Duron said the application documents can be submitted through their office and/or at the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs.
