Latip-Yusoph: Drug bust effect

FIRST time in Philippine media that we got to hear and read often about the drug bust operations made by the Philippine National Police.

In the past years, we seldom get reports about policemen being part of drug pushing and using, but today, many were alarmed and became so conscious about this to a point of some people leaving their posts and even leaving the country just as not to be caught.

These days we get news about groups of people submitting themselves to authorities just not to be killed in the operations.

To us Mindanaoans, this drug bust operations helped us a lot. In Marawi City, the known lumber area has several outposts now with curfew signs of 9:00 pm. Anyone caught by authorities will be given corresponding punishments.

To us, this is a blessing. Why? Many relationships and lives were destroyed by this menace—drugs. It has poisoned the minds of the youth and has destroyed the lives of young men and women in our city and province.

This drug bust operations came as a wonderful chance for all our new government administrators to find ways of busting this social menace. Our people, especially the educated ones, embraced this change as a blessing from Allah.

We can only hope that these operations will not stop soon. There are too many people involved and many victims out there. This Duterte administration especially the few good men who are pursuing this mission, are worth commending.

The country and our people are tired of the empty promises in the bureaucracy. We have been out of the dictator’s arms for three decades yet this is the only time that I have felt the genuine change. Not that I am against previous administrations but I am one of those who have been hoping and waiting for our city to be resurrected and saved from this menace.

Ordinary people who understand total democracy appreciate what the present administration is trying to do. The changes introduced in the government agencies these days are also worth noticing.

This change is brought to us not by Duterte’s will alone but of our people too. Those who are willing to see genuine political and social change have become the arms of this present administration.

As they say, ‘it takes two to tango.’ We cannot see these changes without the support and cooperation of the people in the community. Starting from concerned officials to ordinary community folks had cooperated.

Let us hope that this administration will not again be attacked by dirty political moves. These operations are even regarded by others as something unconstitutional and against human rights. But I am faithful that it is not and will not be.

This present administration will definitely be flooded with controversies and hypocrisies but we have to continue seeing the light and appreciate the good.

This drug busting idea will not only restore peace and order in our communities but it will even restore the relationships lost and save many lives in our country.

To us Meranaws, we are so fortunate that this change has come to us. Our youth today became critical and have learned to fear the idea of drugs.

Agreeing to Plato’s words, “There will be no end to the troubles of states, or of humanity itself, till philosophers become kings in this world, or till those we now call kings and rulers really and truly become philosophers, and political power and philosophy thus come into the same hands.”

May our present government officials be blessed with more wisdom to have political power and philosophy as one in conquering these societal ills.
