3 women, 3 kids hurt as car falls off Busay cliff

A GRAY Mazda 2 sedan fell 35 feet below as it was navigating a steep road coming from a resort in Sitio Garahe, Barangay Busay, Cebu City around 3 p.m. today.

Three women and three children ages 10, 11 and 13 were injured after the car fell off a cliffside and overturned on its way down, with the rear portion of the vehicle landing on the road first.

As the car was on its way down, one of the children and two women fell from the vehicle and landed in the nearby river.

The car was driven by Shiela Macasero. Her passengers were Marivic Tranquila, Leah Tolijao, and the three children (one was Tolijao's child and the other two are cousins).

Residents in the area said all were conscious when rescued but one of the women had severe injuries in the head.

Busay Barangay Councilor Kevin Sanchez said Macasero told him and the residents in the areas that the brake might have malfunctioned.

The 13-year-old male passenger told Sun.Star Cebu that they were on their way home from the resort and was trailing a pickup when the accident happened.

The boy said Macasero tried to make a turn but lost control of the car.

All six passengers are now in the hospital. With Shanice Kae O. Suarez, USJ-R Mass Comm Intern
