FUNDACION Solventia, a Madrid-based non-government organization (NGO) and Aboitiz Group donor, recently pledged to donate 15 computer units to the Anonang Sur Elementary School in Bogo City, Cebu, a school whose repair the NGO funded two years ago.
These computer units, each equipped with a one-year Internet connection, are seen to benefit an estimated 340 students.
In 2014, Fundacion Solventia organized a fund-raising marathon activity in Spain dubbed “Run for the Philippines” to help raise funds for the repair and rehabilitation of schools damaged by typhoon Yolanda.
The proceeds, donated to the Aboitiz Foundation, were allocated for the repair and rehabilitation of Anonang Sur Elementary School, which was among those heavily damaged when Yolanda, one of the world’s strongest typhoons on record, hit the Visayas region three years ago.
Present during the Fundacion Solventia’s recent visit to the school were Fundacion Solventia Director Javier Iturralde Lind, Aboitiz Foundation Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Sonny Carpio, Bogo City Mayor Celestino Martinez, Bogo City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Nimfa Bongo, Assistant to the Chief Schools Governance and Operations Division Bernarda Andales, and Anonang Sur Barangay Captain George Frasco.
Partners
“It has been three years since we started #BangonVisayas, and yet our commitment remains and our work continues. Through partners, such as Fundacion Solventia, we are able to build a #BetterWorld for our student beneficiaries and their families despite the challenges of a calamity,” said Carpio.
Since 2013, the Aboitiz Foundation has turned over 272 classrooms in northern Cebu as part of #BangonVisayas, its relief and rehabilitation campaign in the aftermath of the Bohol earthquake and typhoon Yolanda.
Of this number, 192 classrooms were repaired and 80 were newly-constructed ones.
The fulfillment of this project brought the comfort and safety of a better learning environment to 18,000 students in 34 school beneficiaries.
