Pelayo: The multitasking Don

IN EVERY administration or organization, a leader should always have a person who is reliable when given a task to perform. Here in Angeles, there is this guy who is a walking 911 hotline because of the high demand of his presence and involvement regarding the city's tangible projects. His name is Engr. Donato Dizon, the head of the city engineering department of the city.

In almost all meetings concerning the city, his label is being called forth. As I witness him display his craftsmanship for six years now, I think he has done a lot compared to his namesake Donato Bramante, the Italian architect, although the latter's works are historic religiously. Engineer Don's works may be more remarkable on his road constructions and drainage clearance but he is practically absorbed in essentially everything else. Perhaps this is the reason why he retains his dark complexion.

Despite his paramount role on a given venture, he prefers to work behind the curtain and out of public attention. For him, finishing the task is more relevant than civic regard. Even the smallest of request, the multitasking Don would punch the clock and attend to the matter. From garbage collection to assembling tents for shelter against sun rays or rain water, Engr. Dizon has the strength and stature to start the ball rolling and take effect. Where can you find a city engineer who replies with a thank you after responding to your concern?

His championing is not only limited to the living but also to those whose mortal bodies have reposed. He is my partner whenever there is a departed indigent who cannot afford a decent burial. We are looking forward to the opening of the city's first public memorial park in Barangay Sapalibutad so we won't bother the charitable family of Mr. Robin Nepomuceno anymore.

I hope all government employees are like koyang Don. They have devoted their time and expertise for the benefit of the taxpayers. No, you won't see him loitering inside the malls. But he is perpetually at a place where the people need him most. The pigment of his skin is the undimmed evidence.
