Talisay to create traffic committee

TO SOLVE the traffic problem in Barangay Tabunok, the Talisay City Council agreed to create a “Committee of the Whole” that will be composed of various agencies from the government.

During the council’s session yesterday, the local legislators approved the composition of the committee. The members of the committee are the City of Talisay-Traffic Operation Development Authority, Talisay City Police Station, Land Transportation Office and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The committee will be tasked to solve the traffic problem in Tabunok.

The City Council also wants the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Labor and Employment to be included in the committee so that these agencies could help in providing alternative livelihood programs for the affected tricycle and habal-habal (motorcycle for hire) drivers.

Vice Mayor Alan Bucao said that through this committee, the City can come up with a more holistic approach in dealing with the traffic situation.

Engr. Valrico Tomol of the DPWH Second Engineering District, who was invited in the session, suggested that to solve the traffic problem in Tabunok there is a need to relocate the terminal for tricycles and habal-habals away from the flyover area.

He said that obstructions below the Tabunok flyover have been causing traffic accidents, and that these should be removed immediately.

Bucao agreed with Tomol’s suggestion but he would like to find out if the City has an available area that will be used as a relocation site for the terminal.
