Guv assures support to Negros-Panay bridge project

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr. has assured he will not abandon the proposed Negros-Panay Bride project even if the Negros Island Region (NIR) is created.

Maranon said the NIR is already a done deal after the Department of Interior and Local Government submitted a draft of the Implementing Rules and Regulations early this week.

Maranon, who is also the chairman of Regional Development Council for Western Visayas, said he will bring the project to the attention of the congressmen during their meeting at the House of Representatives on May 19.

Around 20 congressmen in the Visayas are currently supporting the project estimated to cost P40 billion.

Maranon said the proposal will get more support because two regions will now lobby for the bridge project. (LCP)
