Coffee and football

CEBU City will have another annual football festival in its calendar – the Mr. Coffee Football Cup.

The 1st Mr. Coffee Football Cup is set on Aug. 21 at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC).

Mr. Coffee, which is under a new owner and management, is one of the new companies that will support and organize local football events here in Cebu.

“We are in the process of re-branding. Hopefully football will help and we can help football,” said Mr. Coffee CEO and event organizer Jerome Villordon.

Around 100 teams are being targeted by organizers to play the one-day football festival that has 11 different categories.

The divisions in the tournament are Mixed Under-7, Mixed Under-9, Mixed Under-11, Boys Under-13, Girls Under-15, Boys Under-15, Boys Under-19, Girls Under-19, Ladies Open, Men’s Open and 38-and-above.

“We urge the different clubs to participate,” said Villordon, a former DBTC and University of San Carlos (USC) varsity player.

The registration fee for each team, regardless of the division, is P1,500 and comes with a P500 gift certificate from Mr. Coffee. Deadline of entries is on July 29 along with the coaches’ meeting at the Mr. Coffee One Mango Avenue.

The proceeds will go to Don Bosco United FC and to Don Bosco’s Technical and Vocational Education (TVED) program.

“This is unique because this is more of a fundraiser for one of the houses of Don Bosco,” said tournament director Milky Cañete.

“We hope to raise funds for our club and support the TVED program of Don Bosco,” said Villordon.
