OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 uprooted 250 fully-grown marijuana plants and arrested three alleged cultivators in Sitio Lubo, Barangay Claudio, Toledo City, Cebu last Tuesday morning.
The suspects were identified as Ronnie Bacon, 48; Alejandro Abadiano, 39; and Anastacio Cabigas, 49.
The marijuana field was about 250 square meters wide located in the upland barangay, said Chief Insp. Rene Kyamko of CIDG.
The suspects allegedly used the field for many years for their marijuana cultivation.
Kyamko estimated the seized marijuana plants to be about P50,000.
The police official said that the CIDG will continue with its operation against marijuana cultivators, as he received reports that there are more people in the barangay who are also engaged in the same operation.
Operatives from Regional Public Safety Battalion, Toledo City Police Station, Naval Intelligence Special Forces and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7 helped CIDG 7 in the operation.
A .357 revolver loaded with six bullets was reportedly confiscated from Cabigas.
Cabigas wife Teresita, 37, said that her husband was sleeping when operatives arrived in the house and handcuffed him at 11:10 a.m.
She said his husband was then asked by the team to guide them to the area where the suspect cultivated the marijuana.
Last Monday, police also uprooted some 7,000 marijuana stalks worth 1.4 million in Balamban town.
The three arrested suspected cultivators will face complaints for the violation of Section 16 (the cultivation or the culture of plants classified as dangerous) of Republic Act 9165.
A separate complaint of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition will also be filed against Cabigas.
