Man shot dead in front of friends

A SUSPECTED drug pusher was shot dead by an unidentified assailant, while he was playing mahjong in Upper Lumar, Barangay Lorega, Cebu City at 2:10 a.m. yesterday.

Local police said Efren Cantos Jr., 54, single and a messenger and purchaser of a private business firm, was playing mahjong together with his three friends at the house of his neighbor, Finita Agon Cabrera, when a person suddenly appeared behind the victim and shot him several times.

Cantos sustained three gunshot wounds, two in the right side of his abdomen and one in his head.

SPO2 Wetzel Berry, of the Homicide Section of Cebu City Police Office, said Cantos went to Parian Police Station a week ago and submitted himself for profiling.

Cantos also promised that he would not get involved in illegal drugs again.

His friends rushed Cantos to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), but he succumbed to his injuries.

The gunman left the area on a motorcycle, a black Yamaha Mio, without a plate number.

The police recovered from the crime scene four empty shells of caliber .45 and one slug of apparently caliber .45.

SPO2 Berry said they will be conducting further investigation on the crime. Julie Mae Altamira, USJR Intern
