China-made motorcycles ‘just as good’ as Japanese brands

A CEBU-based motorcycle brand can compete with Japanese counterparts in terms of style, quality and practicality, despite it being a China-supplied company, said a marketing official.

Vice president of marketing services Elnathan Gujol of Skygo Marketing Corp. said that their brand is starting to create a trend among habal-habal drivers and young professionals alike.

“Habal-habal is our biggest market in the business model,” he said, adding that couriers and food deliveries are also using their motorcycles because of its economical aspect. He said that their motorcycles can last up to 30 years.

John Carlo Dacumos, Skygo’s marketing officer, said their units rival that of other brands when it comes to design and fuel efficiency.

“We sell our motorcycle, not as a product, but as a package,” he said.

Gujol added that there is a huge price difference between Skygo and other brands, with a range of P12,000 to P13,000, even if they have the same working features and quality.

He admitted that consumers are hesitant to purchase products from China because of the belief that products from the country are substandard.

“We have to gain trust from the customer. We have to be different from other China brands and we have to erase the notion that all China brands do nothing for its customers,” he said.

Skygo Marketing Corp. is boosting its after-sales service for its consumers with their free labor services within the installment period.

“There are no other motorcycle brands that offer free labor services to its customers,” Gujol told Sun.Star Cebu.

Gujol said that Skygo motorcycles are different from other brands because these are company-owned and they can prioritize the maintenance of their units.
Some of their spare parts are also compatible with other motorcycle models and sold at cheaper prices.

Skygo engaged in an aggressive campaign to promote affordability and practicability in the Philippine market. They have 78 branches nationwide and targets to open more this year.

With their “Worry Free Promo”, Skygo seeks to establish their commitment to their customers by providing them with free engine oil overhaul up to three years, Petron fuel card worth P250, premium ECE-certified Skygo helmet and its new design Skygo spandex motorcycle jersey.
