Farmer shot dead in Davao City

A FARMER was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen in Barangay Catalunan Pequeño in Davao City on Wednesday afternoon, July 20.

The victim was identified as Ronnie TatoySarol Sr., 54, of Purok 9 at Sitio Cawa-Cawa in Barangay Catalunan Pequeño, Davao City.

Initial investigation conducted by Senior Police Officer 1 Wilfredo Gallego of the Talomo police revealed the shooting incident took place near Catalunan Pequeño National High School around 5 p.m.

Gallego said the victim who was riding a RUSI motorcycle came from his house and headed to his wife’s vegetable stall when two men on board separate motorcycles appeared and tailed the victim.

When the victim’s motorcycle slowed down, one of the two gunmen shot the victim at close range.

Sarol fell down to the ground and succumbed to the lone gunshot wound at the back of his head while the two gunmen fled to unknown direction.

The victim’s neighbor named Charito Narciso Jacinto, 49, from Blk 17 Exit, who happens to pass by near the vegetable stall of Sarol’s wife during the time of incident, sustained wound believed to be from a stray bullet.

Jacinto sustained injuries on her middle and ring finger of her left hand.

He was immediately treated by responding personnel of 911.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered one fired cartridge case from a caliber .45 pistol.

The recovered evidence was submitted to the Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination.

Police have yet to determine the motive of the incident while they are conducting their follow-up investigation. (Mielin April Salvacion/MSU Intern)
