MAYOR Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has requested for the establishment of a permanent military outpost in the village of Rio Hondo during her meeting on Wednesday, July 20, with Defense Secretary Miguel Delfin Lorenzana.
Salazar and Lorenzana had a talk during President Rodrigo Duterte’s stopover-visit to Zamboanga City on Thursday on his way to Basilan province.
The proposed military outpost is to be established at the Mindeva property in the village of Rio Hondo, which the National Government had bought for P50 million during the Aquino Administration.
The project broke ground last January but actual construction has yet to begin, thus Salazar reiterated the matter under the present administration to facilitate and expedite the construction of the facility that will take charge of the security measures in the village and the neighboring areas.
Former Defense Undersecretary Alexander Pama, who was also the executive director for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in the Aquino administration, led the groundbreaking.
The military outpost is to ensure a stationary deployment of troops to maintain law and order in the village of Rio Hondo and nearby areas.
It will be recalled that the village of Rio Hondo and nearby areas were the most affected villages during the 21-day September 2013 siege. (Bong Garcia)
