Newborn girl found abandoned inside a box survives in Lapu

A NEWBORN baby girl was found inside a box in Sitio Sangi Road in Barangay Pajo, Lapu Lapu City yesterday morning.

Mussah Ustal, a resident of the area, found the infant at 6 a.m.

Mussah was on her way to send her children to school when she heard a baby cry, so she went to check the surroundings to find out where the sound is coming from.

She later found a box tied with a red ribbon and suspected that the baby could be inside.

When she opened the box, she saw the baby with the umbilical cord and placenta still intact.

Mussah called the police officers to report the incident, then went straight to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital to have the baby checked for any infection.

Johoney Badio, administrative aide of the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital, said the baby is healthy and did not have any infection.

The baby will be brought to the Lapu-Lapu Home Care before she undergoes a newborn screening test.

After all the medical tests, she will be brought to the City’s Reception and Study Center for Children, where she will be taken care of in the meantime.

The LapuLapu City police officers are still investigating the incident to find out who may have abandoned the baby, and if there is anyone who witnessed it. Dan Henly N. Cuizon, USJ-R Intern
