Alleged Mindanao drug queen charged sans bail

FORMER Maguing town mayor Johaira Abinal Macabuat also known as "Marimar" together with her husband Army Major Suharto Macabuat are facing charges on violations of Dangerous Drugs Act and illegal possession of firearms without bail.

City Prosecutor Fidel Macauyag on Wednesday, July 27, said the charges against the couple were already filed in court on July 26.

Macauyag said the couple were charged with violating Section 11, Article 2 of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act for possessing 105 grams of 'shabu' and for possessing three firearms and ammunitions which were seized during her arrest together with several others in a search operation conducted by agents of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)- Northern Mindanao and members of Cagayan de Oro Police Office (Cocpo) inside her residence in Purok 1, Grand Ballon in Barangay Kauswagan in Cagayan de Oro on July 23.

With her during the raid was her husband and Sanny Santican. A local judge issued search warrants for both Santican and the former mayor. Also arrested by the operatives were Kate Abinal, Noraisa Sarip, Mark Gerald Sindac, Moamar Taher, Manot Dutoan, and Hazem Tambidan.

PDEA-Northern Mindanao agent Ben Calibre disclosed in a radio interview that Santican and Noraisa Sarip Dimapandi were also charged with the same violations after they were caught tossing out shabu by the window during the search operation.

Marimar together with the other caught during the July 23 search operation are now detained at the city jail facility in Barangay Lumbia.

Macauyag said the raffling of the RTC drugs court that will handle the case will be made known today, July 28.
