Banago fire victims to get higher financial assistance

FIRE victims in Purok Langis, Barangay Banago in Bacolod City will receive higher financial assistance from the City Government, said village chief Arnel Benjamin on Thursday.

A total of 36 families were affected by the early morning fire on July 21.

Benjamin met with the officers and members of the Rotary Club of Bacolod East led by Elsie Jolingan, who turned over used clothing and food items to the fire victims.

He said owners of houses destroyed by the fire will receive P10,000 each while P5,000 will be given to those whose houses were damaged. Sharers will receive P3,000 each.

Social Worker II Bernadeth Fuentes said that of the 36 families affected, only 30 families have qualified to avail of financial assistance as the houses of the other six families have only minor damage.

The fire was caused by a lighted candle at the house of Flordeliza Baroquina.
