Abandoned newborn found in Bacayan, Cebu

AN ABANDONED newborn baby was found covered with dried banana leaves in a grassy area in Barangay Bacayan, Cebu City, on Monday noon, August 1.

Barangay Bacayan resident Gemma Legaspi said she saw a woman left the baby boy in the area near Hidden View Subdivision.

"Naay maid na tomboy nagdala'g bata, akong gisunod. Pag adto nako ngadto sa kawayanan, wa namay bata nga gidala ang babaye, nilapos namag dagan," Legaspi said.

She tried to run after the woman but was worried that something bad might happen to the baby.

Legaspi found the baby with a placenta still attached. She then brought the boy to Bacayan Health Center, where he was cleaned by health workers and breastfed by a concerned citizen.

The boy, who has a small wound in the arm, will then be brought to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

"Dal-on ni namo sa CCMC para ipa-check up kay ang inunlan ani wa man natarong og putol", said Police Offcer 2 Chona Boniel of Talamban Police Station.

Policemen from Talamban Police Station responded to the area, and are still looking for the mother, who reportedly is working as a househelp in Hidden View Subdivision. (Pia Noreen Bilar/Sunnex)
