HOTELS in the Summer Capital were recently honored for their quality service and standards.

Department of Tourism regional director Marie Venus Tan said the hotel standards is part of the efforts of the department to make sure facilities are performing to required standards.

Tan said there are five levels of accommodation standards ranging from one to five stars applicable to hotels, resorts and apartment hotels.

Awarded four star categories in the city include The Manor at Camp John Hay, Le Monet Hotel and Azalea Residences Baguio while three star ratings went to Baguio Burnham Suites, Hotel Supreme, Forest Lodge at Camp John Hay, Hotel Elizabeth and Ridgewood Residences.

NYC Manhattan Suites, Baguio Holiday Villas were rated with two stars and one star rating was awarded to Grandzion Garden Resort Hotel.

The lone five star categorized as resort was awarded to Baguio Country Club.

The establishments were judged based on the business area like arrival and departure, public areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, food and beverage, lounge area, kitchen area, amenities, and business practices.

Hotels, Resorts, and Apartment Hotels were rated based on the Star Rating System used by the National Accommodation Standards, which employs a points-based rating system focused on inventory, availability, condition, and quality of a specific facility or service.

The DOT standards is part of the Tourism Act of 2009, which mandates the DOT to formulate and enforce standards for the operation and maintenance of tourism enterprises, prescribing minimum and progressive levels of operating quality and efficiency consistent with local and international standards.

It also provides for the development and enforcement of a comprehensive system for mandatory accreditation for primary tourism enterprises, and voluntary accreditation for secondary tourism enterprises, in accordance with prescribed guidelines and standards. (With a report from Jho Arranz/PIO)
