Water firm to build P165-M sewerage treatment plant

THE City Government and the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the construction of a P165 million sewerage treatment plant.

The MOA, which was signed Monday, August 1, is a revised document that calls for the use of the city’s 2,196 square meters property at Sitio Magay in the village of Zone III for the construction of the sewerage project by the water firm.

About a month ago, Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar accompanied by officials from concerned City Departments including representatives from the ZCWD and the USaid-BeSecure, inspected the proposed site of the sewerage treatment plant.

Per assessment of the ZCWD, the project which would be located below the city’s Material Recovery Facility in Magay would require a huge investment compared to an above ground sewerage treatment plant facility.

The revised MOA signed on Monday stipulated that the area where the project will be placed is located within the main public market complex at Sitio Magay.

The signatories of the MOA aside from Salazar were ZCWD General Manager Leonardo Rey Vasquez, ZCWD Board Chair Edwin Edwin Caliolio and City Legal officer Jesus Carbon. (Bong Garcia)
