Search for son of Leyte mayor extends to Cebu

THE Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will join the manhunt for the son of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr., who surrendered to Police Director General Ronald Dela Rosa yesterday morning.

Senior Supt. Jose Macanas, CPPO director, said police and other law enforcement agencies have been tasked to find Kerwin, if he refuses to turn himself to authorities.

There’s a possibility Kerwin might be in Cebu Province considering its proximity to Leyte, he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte last Monday issued an order, telling the Espinosas to surrender within 24 hours or risk being shot.

Duterte’s pronouncement came after the mayor’s bodyguards were arrested in a buy-bust in Barangay Benolho.

Familiar with suspect

Around 237 grams of white crystals believed to be shabu worth about P1.9 million were seized from suspects Jessie Ocarez, 34; Marcelo Adorco, 40; Jose Antipuesto, 36; Ernesto Dumalat, 20; and Jeffrey Pesquera, 39.

Macanas told reporters he served as police chief of Ormoc City two years ago.

“I know Kerwin very well,” he said. “Talagang involve yan sa drugs. Meron nga yang hotel, eh (He’s really involved in the illegal drug trade. He even has a hotel).”

The police official said they caught Kerwin before with the assistance of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, but they had to release him after his cases were dismissed.

Macanas said properties of suspected drug personalities should also be investigated.

Anong gagawin sa properties na yan (What will happen to the properities)?” he said.
