Calatrava entreps join seminar on pricing, negotiating buyers

FORTY entrepreneurs of the municipality of Calatrava attended the seminar on pricing and how to negotiate with buyers initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Negros Occidental recently.

Participating-entrepreneurs are into small-scale enterprises like pandan weaving, food, and furniture and crafts sector. Some staff of the Municipal Government also participated in the one-day activity.

The seminar was conducted by Alicia Doreen Peña, managing director of Silay Export Inc., which exports resin products like bowl, lighting fixtures, and table top accessories made from indigenous materials.

Peña shared key topics on factors to consider in pricing, cost composition and its behavior, steps in costing, pricing methods and structures, the competition, basic incoterms (international commercial terms) rules, and tips on how to negotiate with buyers.

During the activity, Mayor Araceli Somosa recognized the continued assistance of the DTI to the development of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the town.

Somosa also encouraged local manufacturers to be serious in these undertakings for their business to grow and to consequently provide employment opportunities in the locality.

Rachel Nufable, chief of the Industry Development Division of DTI-Negros Occidental, assured local producers of the agency’s help, specifically on the marketing aspect of doing business.

“Product development, participation to trade fairs, management capability seminars like costing and pricing, among others are some of the agency’s interventions in promoting local MSMEs”, Nufable said.

The activity was also facilitated by DTI-Negros Occidental Account Officer Romel Amihan, and municipal tourism focal person Amirose Lavilla. (PR)
