2 illegal drug personalities shot dead in Cebu City

TWO men involved in the illegal drug trade were killed in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City on Wednesday, August 3.

Chrisar Babatid was drinking with his friends around 12 a.m. Wednesday along L. Flores St., Barangay Pasil, Cebu City, when two men onboard a motorcycle shot him.

Babatid sustained gunshot wounds on his body and head. He was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

Police recovered from the crime scene four empty shells of calibre 9mm and one deformed slug.

The relatives of the victim said that Babatid was an illegal drug pusher and voluntarily surrendered a month ago at the Police Station 6 in Barangay Pasil.

Around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Matt Rizon, a resident in Sitio Buli, Barangay Duljo Fatima, also in Cebu City, was shot dead.

Residents in the area said they heard four gunshots. They then informed the barangay tanods of Duljo Fatima and called the Cebu City Emergency Medical Services (CCEMS).

But Marc Laurina, of the CCEMS, said that Rizon was already dead. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in his body.

One live ammunition of calibre 9mm and one necklace were recovered from the crime scene.

Village watchman Zalde Racaza and some concerned citizens said that Rizon was an illegal drug user.

The incidents Wednesday were just two of the many killings involving drug personalities in the country. President Rodrigo Duterte, in his first state of the nation address last July 25, vowed not to stop the war against illegal drugs. (Tovya Kaiko Galeon, USJR intern/Sunnex)
