Comelec set to print 85-M ballots for October polls

EIGHTY-five million ballots will be printed for the October 31 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Wednesday.

According to Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez, of the total 85 million ballots, 62 million will be used for the village elections while 23 million will be allocated for SK elections.

"We have a total of 85 million ballots to be printed, 62 million for barangay elections and 23 million for SK," he said.

Earlier, Commissioner Rowena Guanzon revealed that the approved budget for the printing of the ballots to be used in the polls in October is P297 million.

"Comelec has approved the budget for printing of 85 Million ballots at a cost of P297 million," Guanzon announced on her Twitter account.

Meanwhile, Comelec Chairman Juan Andres Bautista reiterated that if Congress is contemplating on postponing the October polls, lawmakers should pass the corresponding law before August 22, ahead of their scheduled ballot printing.

“If there is a law postponing the elections, then we will, of course, follow. But it should be passed by August 22 as that is our projected start for the printing of the ballots,” the poll body chief said. (FP/Sunnex)
