THERE will be another opportunity for the residents and visitors of Baguio City to know more about the beautiful art and rich culture of Japan.

Eigasai in Baguio to be presented by the Japanese Foundation is one of the highlights in line for the celebration of the Philippine-Japan Friendship Month 2016 Tanabata Festival in Baguio City marking the 60 years of Philippine-Japan Friendship.

The film entitled “Flying Colors” will be the first movie to be shown at 7PM on August 11 to be followed by “The Great Passage”, The Little House” and “Pale Moon” on August 12; “The Boy and the Beast,” “KAKEKOMI,” and “Our Little Sister” on August 13; “The Boy and The Beast,” “August in Tokyo,”, and “The Great Passage” on August 14.

Meanwhile, on August 15, the movies “Chronicle of My Mother” and “Crossroads” will be shown at FDCP Cinematheque Baguio.

Excited to witness the upcoming event is University of the Cordilleras Instructor Gyrel Manogan who has a soft spot for Japan being once an Abong Scholar (Filipino-Japanese Association) when she was in elementary until she finished her college degree in 2009, this despite having no Japanese blood at all.

Her experience with the Abong family was considered as a meaningful journey as she was introduced to the Japanese culture and learned about their music, practices and writing. For her, learning more about the Japanese culture through film is something to look forward to.

“I admire their way of paying back because of WWII and tracing Japanese descents to assist them in their education,” she said.

There are many things that we can learn from the unique culture of Japan. We will discover their fascinating and multifaceted culture through their wonderful and highly developed art.
