Pagasa: Weather perfect for Ironman race

CEBU will have a sunny with partly cloudy skies during the Alaska Ironkids Philippines and Cobra Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championships this weekend, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa-Mactan Chief Meteorologist Al Quiblat told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that there will be a low chance of rain in the morning of Saturday and Sunday. Light to moderate rain is expected sometime in the afternoon.

“Generally (the weekend) will be sunny and possible rain showers in the afternoon. It’s possible that it’s going to be windy because there’s a possibility na mokusog ang Habagat,” said Quiblat. “A light rain is expected to happen anytime in the afternoon.”

The temperature during the weekend will be at 25 degrees Celsius in the morning and will rise up to 32 degrees at noontime.

Quiblat said that though there is a low chance of rain it will be windy and the sea conditions will be moderate to rough. The wind will be at 20 to 30 kilometers per hour and 35 to 40 kilometers per hour in the open sea. He said that if there’s a strong wind it is expected that heat and humidity will reduce.

“This weather forecast is for today and the next four days. We have a weather update every date,” he said.

The Alaska Ironkids Philippines, the junior version of Ironman, is slated this Saturday with 400 kids; while the Cobra Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship is on Sunday with around 3,000 participants from 43 countries.

The general manager of Sunrise Events Inc. (SEI) Princess Galura said that she has asked TV host and weather reporter Kim Atienza, who’s also a mainstay in the half-Ironman race in Cebu, regarding the weather this weekend.

“He (Atienza) told me that weekend weather is the same as last Wednesday (which is sunny),” said Galura.
