Mandaue buy-bust claims 7th fatality; 2 others arrested

ANOTHER suspected drug pusher was killed when he allegedly tried to resist arrest in Barangay Alang-alang, Mandaue City last Wednesday afternoon.

Gerald Mayol, 24, was the seventh person to die during a buy-bust in the city.

Two other persons were also arrested, after sachets of suspected illegal drugs were allegedly seized from them.

SPO2 Renato Canja of Mandaue Police Station 1 said his men had to shoot Mayol after the latter allegedly tried to fire at police officers at 5:35 p.m. in Sitio Liong.

Complaints

Canja said Mayol sensed that he was transacting with a police decoy.

“During the buy-bust, he pulled out his gun. He really wanted to resist arrest,” he said in Cebuano.

Canja said they received several complaints about Mayol’s illegal activities from his neighbors that was why they conducted the operation.

“We went to his house and encouraged him to surrender during one of our Tokhang operations, but he refused,” he said in Cebuano.

Authorities recovered a sachet of suspected shabu and a firearm from Mayol.

Ferdinand Lauron, 21, and Francis Alegato, 31 who were spotted in the area during the operation, were also arrested.

The two are reportedly neighbors of Mayol, Canja said.

Two sachets of suspected shabu were each recovered from Lauron and Alegato.

Canja said they will file violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, against the arrested suspects for possession of illegal drugs.

Lauron and Alegato were detained at the Police Station 1’s holding cell.
