A SUSPECTED drug pusher who was on the Pardo Police Station’s watch list was shot dead by five unidentified men in Sitio Tayud, Barangay Basak-Pardo, Cebu at 12:30 a.m. yesterday.
Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Mark Gil “Wawang” Legara.
Four of the five killers were wearing bonnets when they approached him while he was playing computer games.
A witness said the men hog-tied Legara before they took him away.
Shot in the head
A few minutes later, they heard gunshots and found the victim lying dead on a grassy lot.
The witness also recognized the man without a bonnet, saying the latter is a policeman at Police Station 7.
According to initial investigation of the Homicide Section, Legara succumbed to gunshot wounds in his head and upper left arm.
Legara’s sister Jennipher Marquez said her brother was a drug user, not a pusher.
“Dili man nila tarungon. Dakpon lang unta, dili patyon (They’re not doing it right. He should have been arrested, not killed),” she said.
Cebu City Police Office Director Joel Doria said they investigate the allegations.
“We will not leave any stones unturned. We’ll put anyone under investigation whether it’s a police operation or a dead body. We will conduct an investigation properly,” he said.
No complaint yet
He said they have yet to receive a complaint, but they will welcome any investigation on the matter as the organization does not tolerate any misdeed from one of its personnel.
“Definitely you can be assured na hindi natin ito-tolerate ang wrongdoings kung sino man sa ating kapulisan (We will not tolerate any wrongdoings from any of our police ranks),” Doria said.
In Barangay Tejero, Jayrald Gepulla, 38, a drug user was gunned down while he was playing hantak, or coin toss, game with his friends in an interior portion of Villagonzalo II last Wednesday night.
According to the victim’s wife Janet, Gepulla was rarely home.
Gepulla was shot in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
