Davao City to turn into urban organic garden

DAVAO City will soon turn into an urban organic garden as the City Government gears up for ensuring safe and sufficient food supply for its residents.

City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio expressed support to the project as she issued the green light of the proposal to develop the rooftop of the City Hall Annex Building into a model of organic gardening.

In this way, the locals can learn the science and art of safe food production as well as enjoy the benefits of urban green space.

“Among the priorities of my administration is food security,” Duterte-Carpio said.

She added the agriculture sector has her full support on this. She also showed the same act when she junked the City Land Use Plan (Clup) that would have removed the 10 percent green space in any subdivision development project.

“We want to make sure that people, especially our children, do not go hungry. Our objective is to come up with programs that will ensure that Dabawenyos have enough food to eat,” the mayor said.

City Administration Office head Leo Brian Leuterio said the gardens will be placed such as garage, parking areas, sidewalks, balconies, decks, or bare walls of schools or offices.
