ONE suspected drug pusher was killed in a shootout with police during a drug bust in Sitio Salvador, Barangay Tangke, Talisay City in Cebu around 3 p.m. Thursday, August 4.
Talisay police, led by Police Superintendent Aileen Recla, shot dead Antonio Palmero, 29, a resident of the area.
The operation, though, was intended for Lota Palmero, Antonio's mother.
Police said that Antonio went out of their house with a firearm in his hand after sensing the poseur buyer transacting with his mother is a police.
During the exchange of fire, Lota managed to flee from the area, leaving Antonio alone.
A hot pursuit was then conducted, and Lota was arrested near the vicinity of the Barangay Hall of Tangke, Talisay.
Recovered from the scene were chrome-plated Smith & Wesson .38 revolver with five live ammunitions, two medium-sized heat-sealed plastic sachets containing white crystalline granules believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as "shabu."
Talisay police said both Antonio and Lota are in their illegal drugs watchlist.
Initial investigation revealed that the Talisay police conducted "Operation Tokhang" several days ago on Palmero's house after receiving report of their involvement in illegal drug trade. The mother and son though refused to surrender.
