Police nab 10 ‘drug users, pushers’ in separate raids

OPERATIVES of Cebu City Police Station 2 arrested seven persons, including a septuagenarian, in Sitio Kawayan, Barangay Sambag 2 yesterday.

They were conducting Oplan Tokhang around 4 p.m. in the area when a concerned citizen told them that there were people having a pot session in the vicinity.

“When we arrived in the house, it was open. We saw them sniffing shabu so we went in,” PO1 Arnel Cabardo said in Cebuano.

Bebe “Nanay” Abrigundo, 74, admitted that her house has been used as a drug den for some time.

Cabardo said they’ve not finished investigating Nanay.

On the watch list

Arrested with her were Junrey Empinado, 21; Ronel, 20, and Edgardo Abrigundo, 44;, Rolando Escosar, 24; Adonis Mabitad, 31; and April Rose Ramirez.

Drug paraphernalia and two sachets of suspected shabu were confiscated from them.

In Lapu-Lapu City, Jerry Villares Malingin was arrested during a buy-bust conducted by the City Intelligence Branch.

The 43-year-old unemployed suspect is a resident of Sitio Kinalumsan, Barangay Gun-ob, but the operation was conducted in Purok Five Star, Barangay Babag around 5 a.m.

Senior Insp. Joey Bicoy said Malingin did not surrender during Oplan Tokhang even though he is on their watch list of drug personalities.

Malingin is allegedly a level 2 drug pusher, disposing of at least 25 grams of shabu every week.

seized from him were 40 sachets and a medium pack of suspected shabu. The Dangerous Drugs Board estimated their worth to be around P118,000.

Bicoy said the suspect will be charged with violating Sections 5 (selling) and 11 (possession) of Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Last Sunday afternoon, police arrested three persons in Sitio Calavera, Barangay Pangdan, City of Naga.

Surrender plans

They were identified as Dennis Laput Laruap, 32; Mark Kevin Esclamado Sayson, 18; and Aceron Sayaan Billarta, 26.

They were allegedly sniffing shabu in a nearby stream.

Allegedly seized from them were two small packs of estimated shabu with an estimated value of P300 and drug paraphernalia.

These will be submitted to the PNP Crime Laboratory 7 in Camp Sotero Cabahug in Cebu City for examination.

Laruap told police that he has been a drug user for the last three years. He said he knew about Oplan Tokhang but he didn’t have time to surrender because of his work.

Sayson, for his part, denied knowing anything about the program.

The three are detained at the City of Naga Police Station. Danielle Ann A. Tan, Dan Henly N. Cuizon & Jyda Yeecynth Ang, USJ-R Interns
