BUSINESS permits of two fastfood chains in Mandaue City are now subject for revocation after they continued to violate the City ordinance that prohibits the distribution and use of plastics.

The Mandaue City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) already listed 32 non-compliant business establishments, including the two fastfood chains.

Seventeen establishments complied with the ordinance.

The City commended the establishments that complied with the ordinance, including several stalls in the City Public Market, Savemore in Canduman, National Book Store, 7-Eleven, Gaisano Grand Mall and some street vendors.

Cenro recommended yesterday to Mandaue Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing the cancellation of the business permits of a fastfood chain in a mall and another one in Barangay Tabok.

Archt. Araceli Barlam, head of Cenro, said their eco-wardens caught these two business establishments using plastics despite the notice that was given to them after their first offense.

Aside from these two businesses that did not comply, there are still 30 stores, restaurants, bakeshops, fish and meat vendors, sari-sari store and pharmacy that were caught using plastics and were marked as first offense.

Cenro conducts random and surprise inspection in the different areas in the City daily.

Once caught, the violator will be given a notice and urged to use paper bags or eco-bags.

If the business establishment will be caught for the second time, Cenro will recommend to the mayor the revocation of its business permit.

Implementation

Lawyer Mae Elaine Bathan, chief of staff of Quisumbing, said the mayor received several requests for exemption from the plastic ban implementation.

None were approved because the City “intends to implement it equally.”

“Our aim here is to encourage everyone to set an example sa tanang mga (to all) establishment nga seryoso ang (that we are serious in the) city of Mandaue sa pagpatuman aning atoa’ng (to enforce the) ordinance on plastic ban (to all business establishments that Mandaue is serious on the implementation of the plastic ban ordinance),” Bathan said.

Bathan encouraged buyers and consumers to only use eco-bags.

She said businesses that do not have business permits and are not compliant to the ordinance will be penalized for two violations.

Cenro has 14 eco-wardens.

Barlam said they now have a designed program that targets 50 eco-wardens.
