AFTER President Rodrigo Duterte publicized the names of local executives with alleged link to drug operations, Malacañang is also set to announce the names of local government unit (LGU) officials whose reputation is “untainted,” Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said on Wednesday.
In a statement, Andanar said the government also has to acknowledge officials who choose to take the right track.
“In a few days, we will release the list of reputable LGU officials… We thought that it was also proper to celebrate the untainted reputation of LGU executives when it come to illegal drugs,” Andanar said.
“Based on the list, there are more clean governors and mayors than LGU executives who are suspected to be in the illegal drugs business,” he added.
Andanar’s statement came after Duterte divulged the names of public officials, including governors and mayors, who are allegedly involved in illegal drug trade.
In a separate statement, Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueño said the roster of esteemed LGU officials had already been passed on but has to be verified first.
Sueño said the government would give credit to those officials with good track record, including those who have received awards on the grounds of their excellent performance.
“We have the list now but [it’s] still on the process of verification. There is no specific criteria yet. It’s just those who are not included in the second list of drug protectors. Of course, we are checking the untainted LGU officials,” Sueño said. (Sunnex)
