THE Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday that it sees no basis to increase the security details of its chief Ronald dela Rosa, despite reports that drug lords are working with terror groups such as Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) for his elimination.
PNP spokesperson Dionardo Carlos said they believe Dela Rosa has enough well-trained security personnel ready to defend him against any threat.
"The current security detail [of the PNP chief] are taking necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the PNP chief," Carlos said.
On Tuesday, Dela Rosa admitted that there were reports that drug lords are coordinating with terror groups to neutralize him as well as of President Rodrigo Duterte in the light of the administration's war against illegal drugs.
Carlos said members of Dela Rosa's security details underwent elite training and have high-level qualifications.
"I think the qualification and the background of the people around him now, malakas 'yun," he said.
"They have background, they have been with SAF (Special Action Force), they have the proper training, they have the qualification and mataas yung qualification ng mga ito," Carlos added.
The spokesperson also said that dela Rosa himself underwent training in the United States. (Sunnex)
