Iloilo mayor to limit official functions sans police security

ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he has to limit his attendance to evening meetings without a police escort, as he might be a target of vigilantism.

Mabilog said he has to rely on his unarmed friends and volunteers as his security whenever he goes out to social functions and meetings.

The mayor, however, assured his presence in official functions as the city chief executive.

On Sunday, August 7, President Rodrigo Duterte named him as a drug protector and called Iloilo as a "shabulized" city.

A total of 21 detailed police escorts were also ordered back to their unit, leaving Mabilog without a police security.

Mabilog was ordered to report last Monday, August 8, together with other local chief executives of Iloilo, to Philippine National Police Director General Roland dela Rosa for verification of the charges.

He, however, was told that there were no charges yet filed against him.

Mabilog said he is ready to answer these charges anytime. (Sunnex)
