CEBUANO MMA star Cary Bullos is confident that his Seldef teammate, Jimmy Yabo, will bounce back and win in his fourth ONE Championship appearance this weekend in Macau.
“We have a huge chance. His opponent will have a hard time because we’ll be using a different strategy this time. You will see it on fight night,” Bullos told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Yabo takes on 19-year-old Chinese Jia Wen Ma in one of the undercard fights of ONE Championship – “Heroes of the World” this Saturday at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Macau.
Yabo is coming off a third round technical knockout loss to Benedict Ang last May. He has won only one of his three ONE Championship fights, winning a first round knockout over Bashir Ahmad and first round stoppage defeat to Amir Khan.
Bullos, who is Yabo’s sparring partner, feels that the 35-year-old heavy-hitter is good to go to represent Cebu in the international MMA scene.
“He’s ready. He is just a little under the contracted weight because of our training. Hopefully, our (Cebuanos) bad luck will be gone and he’ll bring glory to Cebu once again,” he said.
Some of the Cebuano fighters that is in the ONE Championship roster hasn't had much success. It includes the likes of Bullos, who lost all of his three fights, Vaughn Donayre, who has also lost three, Trestel Tan, who split his fights, and Eugene Toquero, who just recently got defeated.
Yabo is 5-3, with all of his wins coming from knockouts. Jia is 2-2 and is coming off a first round technical knockout loss to unbeaten Russian Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev.
