FORMER San Enrique Vice Mayor Abner Jardinico withdrew his petition for the manual recount of votes cast in the mayoral race during the May 9 elections.
“After the recount of four precincts last month, we withdrew. There’s no discrepancy in the votes,” he said, adding that “gin pa-stop na lang kay mabayad pa (we had it stopped because we have to pay).”
On May 24, Bago City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Frances Guanzon had ordered a manual recount of the votes cast in the town’s mayoral contest after Jardinico was questioning the credibility of the vote counting machines (VCMs).
San Enrique has a total of 16,417 registered voters in 10 barangays with 27 clustered precincts and nine voting centers.
Three days later, Jardinico succeeded reelected mayor Mario Magno, who passed away on May 27 due to multiple organ failure.
Magno won his third and final term with 7,906 votes against Jardinico's 4,885.
Jardinico occupied the mayoral position until Magno’s term ended on June 30. By virtue of succession, Vice Mayor-elect Jilson Tubillara assumed the post as mayor on June 30.
